Cloey Uddenberg buries her first of the year in stoppage time to give Toronto its first goal in three games
Burnaby, B.C. (May 23, 2026) – Cloey Uddenberg scored late as AFC Toronto fell 2-1 to Vancouver Rise FC at Swangard Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Toronto (1-1-2) now sits fourth in the Northern Super League table with four points.
Vancouver scored twice in the opening half, the second coming off a penalty shot. Toronto’s sole marker came in added time in the second half, when Uddenberg buried her first of the year off a corner kick set piece.
Captain Nikki Small, on the club’s resilience after consecutive losses: “The whole team knows that this is not the standard. This doesn't happen to us regularly. So we're going to go back, and our training this week is definitely going to be harder than most. We're going to really look to bounce back in Calgary. And I think moving forward you're going to see the AFC Toronto you saw last year and at the beginning of this year. So there's nothing to be afraid of. We're going to be back to where we were.”
AFC Toronto heads west again next weekend, set to face Calgary Wild FC on Saturday, May 31 at 4 p.m. ET.
CLOEY UDDENBERG: The 23-year-old midfielder subbed on and scored her first goal of the season. Last year, Uddenberg had two goals.
KAYLEE HUNTER: The 18-year-old striker leads the league with 14 shots, and sits second with seven shots on target.
NIKAYLA SMALL: Toronto’s captain has a league-leading 25 tackles through four games.
HEAD-TO-HEAD: AFC Toronto now holds a 3-1-3 record against Vancouver Rise FC across seven regular season contests.

More from the locker room:
Head coach Marko Milanovic, on the result: “We're obviously disappointed with this performance, especially the first 30 minutes. … I would say, really uncharacteristic stuff that we were doing. We obviously improved for the rest of the first half. The last 15, I thought we were decent. The second half was a lot better, but we got ourselves in too big of a hole and we couldn't get out.”
Milanovic, on weathering early season struggles: “To put things into perspective, it's game four of the season. There's going to be some lows like this, we’ve had them last year too. Very confident that this group will still come out on top.”
Victoria Pickett, on rallying behind captain Nikki Small: “It’s on all of us. We all need to take that extra step in pushing forward and making sure we're following in (Nikki)’s footsteps.”
Milanović on 20-year-old April Lantaigne earning her first start of the season: “She’s worked very hard, she deserved the start. Absolutely we have a lot of injuries, but despite the injuries, she would've deserved the start. She's been improving so much over the last 12 months, 14 months, and she's someone that we think has a lot of potential and that's going to be an impact player for us moving forward.”
