Three AFC Toronto strikers score their first of the year, goalkeeper Sofia Manner earns a clean sheet in her first start of the season

Calgary, AB (May 31, 2026) – AFC Toronto put up a strong showing out west on Sunday afternoon, with a 4-0 win over Calgary Wild FC at McMahon Stadium. With the win, Toronto (2-1-2) snaps a two-game losing streak and moves into fourth place in the Northern Super League table with seven points.

Lauren Rowe opened the scoring for Toronto, capitalizing on a misplay from Calgary’s goalkeeper for her first of the season. Early in the second half, Kaylee Hunter found her first of the year, striking a through ball from captain Nikayla Small to double the lead. Sarah Stratigakis then added to Toronto’s tally, burying a feed from Zoe Burns.

In the 88th minute, new Toronto signing Linda subbed on for her NSL debut. Kaila Novak added a fourth for Toronto in stoppage time, with a left-footed strike from outside the penalty box. The goal marked Novak’s first career NSL goal. Stratigakis recorded her second assist of the season on the play. Goalkeeper Sofia Manner made her first start of the season on Sunday, earning a clean sheet.

Head coach Marko Milanović: “I thought we were solid, especially defensively. I don't think we allowed a corner today, so that just shows that we really kept them outside of our zone. And obviously capitalized on chances, which is something that we couldn't do the last few games. But like I said before, it was just a matter of time with all the chances we were creating. So really happy for the girls, a much-needed win.”

After the league’s international window, AFC Toronto returns home to host Montreal Roses FC at York Lions Stadium on Saturday, June 13 at 4 p.m. ET.

KEEPING CLEAN: AFC Toronto has two clean sheets through five games. The club has conceded the fewest goals in the league so far this season, with just five against.

FIRST(S) OF THE YEAR: AFC Toronto strikers Lauren Rowe, Kaylee Hunter, and Kaila Novak all recorded their first goal of the year on Sunday. Midfielders Nikayla Small and Zoe Burns both recorded their first assist of the season.

KAYLEE HUNTER: The 18-year-old striker has three goals in four games against Wild FC at McMahon Stadium in her hometown of Calgary.

SOFIA MANNER: Goalkeeper Sofia Manner made her first start of the season for AFC Toronto, earning her third career NSL clean sheet.

More from the locker room:
Kaylee Hunter, on the win: “I think we had a game plan coming into it and we followed that. Like Marko said, we were really good defensively, and then once we kind of got into their attacking box, we were ruthless and finished all the chances that we got and gave them nothing. So we're happy with the win.”

Hunter, on scoring in front of her hometown crowd in Calgary: “Honestly, I'm just super happy. I think it was a good team play. Nikki played a great ball, well actually it started from April, and then Nikki played a great ball through. Yeah, just super happy.”

Zoe Burns, on the win: “I’m really proud of our performance. I think we all knew what we had to do coming in, and we stepped up onto the field and did it.”

Zoe: “That goal, along with the others, is just a testament to the things that we've been working on for a long time … when it looks so cookie-cutter from all the things that you've been working on, that always feels pretty good.”

Marko Milanović, on the clean sheet: “It’s a collective effort always, because everything starts from the front line. The front line did a great job. Communication behind them was excellent as well, and then Sofia (Manner) was controlling space behind the back line. So the group effort, collective effort, was really, really good today.”

Milanović, on Linda’s debut: “Even in those six, seven minutes that she played, you can see the talent … Obviously she's still getting used to us, it's a big move for her coming to North America. But she's someone with so much potential and someone really to look out for in the upcoming games.”

Milanović, on keeping a similar roster after back-to-back losses: “I don't lose faith in my players when we don't get results. And even when they maybe don't perform as well as they could, I still have so much trust in them, so much belief. So that's going to continue regardless of what happens. I know how good they can be and how hard they work, so that's going to continue moving forward.”
