Kaylee Hunter scored her fifth of the year, goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo remained unbeaten with her second clean sheet in her second start

Toronto, ON (July 28, 2026) – Kaylee Hunter converted from the penalty spot on Tuesday night to lead AFC Toronto to a 1-0 win over Calgary Wild FC. The club now has shutouts in back-to-back matches, with goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo remaining unbeaten in her two NSL starts. With the win, AFC Toronto (6-3-4) sits third in the Northern Super League table with 21 points.

Toronto came out strong on Tuesday, mounting a number of dangerous attacks and controlling the majority of possession through the first half. The club finally broke through, early in the second half, with Kaylee Hunter converting a penalty shot for her fifth goal of the year. Toronto remained strong defensively to limit Calgary’s offensive chances, as goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo earned her second clean sheet.

Goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo, on the clean sheet: “If you look at the game, it’s the 10 other players in front. (Calgary) didn’t really have that many opportunities on goal. So I did my job once, twice when I had to, but it's the team in front that's doing the work and making sure that their offensive line isn't getting through. I think defensively we were solid again tonight and that's huge. … It's a shutout, but it's a team shutout.”

LENA SILANO: Lena Silano came off the bench in the 65th minute for her Northern Super League debut.

Head coach Marko Milanović, on the win: “I thought we were in total control in the first half. Even though we didn't create a lot of clear-cut chances, I thought we were in their box multiple times, I think close to 10 corners. We really didn't allow much other than that set piece that Sabrina needed a save on. Second half was a little different, but I still thought we were in control for most of the second half. Scored that big goal early and held on.”

Kaylee Hunter, on her goal: “I was just happy to get one in the back of the net. I think coming out of the first half, we had so many opportunities that weren't wasteful, but it was just finally good to get one in the back of the net. And then once we got the goal, we didn't really slow down our momentum. We had other chances that we could have capitalized on. It was a big goal. I was happy it went in and it won us the game.”

Sabrina D’Angelo, on making her home debut: “Being at home is really special. It was an hour and a half for my parents to come and drive and watch me and the team play, and I haven't had that since before I went to college. The national team's here and there in Toronto, but now being a part of a club here in Canada is really special. I got emotional before because I think it's just realizing that I get to play professional soccer in Canada. I'm so honoured and grateful to have this opportunity and to be a part of this club and to share it with my family. It means the world.”

D’Angelo, on the opportunity to soon play at BMO Field after her first match at York Lions Stadium: “I'm so excited to play at BMO. This is special, because this is where we train every day. And with the fans, I think it's quite an intimate venue. But BMO's just such a big stadium, and to play on grass, it's exciting. Both venues are really special, but yeah, I'm excited to play at BMO.”
