AFC Toronto Advances to the W Canadian Championship Semi-Finals

Toronto, ON (October 6, 2026) — AFC Toronto advanced to the W Canadian Championship Semifinals with a 120-minute victory over Vancouver Rise on Sunday, in a match that also counted toward the Northern Super League regular-season standings.

The inaugural 2026–27 W Canadian Championship is Canada Soccer’s new national women’s cup competition, with the tournament providing a pathway to the 2027 Concacaf W Champions Cup and 2028 FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

After 90 minutes of back-and-forth action left the score tied 1-1, the match needed extra time to separate the two sides. Kaylee Hunter broke the deadlock in the 100th minute with the decisive goal for AFC Toronto.

With the victory, AFC Toronto becomes the final team to secure a place in the W Canadian Championship Semifinals. Toronto joins fellow Northern Super League sides Calgary Wild and Ottawa Rapid, along with Simcoe County Rovers of the Ontario Premier League (OPL), in the final four.

Toronto now awaits the semifinal draw to determine its opponent. The semifinals of the inaugural 2026–27 W Canadian Championship are scheduled to take place in spring 2027.

With the victory secured, Toronto will now turn its attention to the remainder of the Northern Super League season. With just two regular-season matches remaining, the race for the Shield is heating up as AFC Toronto looks to finish the season on top.

The Northern Super League now heads into an international break, with AFC Toronto set to return to action on October 18 when it hosts Calgary Wild at BMO Field. From there, Toronto will continue its league campaign before turning its attention back to the W Canadian Championship semifinals in the spring.
