Goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo earned her fifth clean sheet in eight matches, midfielder Zoe Hasenauer made her NSL debut
Toronto, ON (September 6, 2026) – AFC Toronto played to a 0-0 draw against Calgary Wild FC on Sunday afternoon at BMO Field. The club (9-5-5) continues to sit third in the Northern Super League table with 32 points.
AFC Toronto mounted a number of dangerous attacks in the first half, totalling 11 shots through the first 45. The club continued to press hard into the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Calgary managed a few dangerous attacks through the second half, but goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo and Toronto’s back line remained characteristically strong, securing the clean sheet. In the 72nd minute, Zoe Hasenauer came off the bench for her NSL debut.
“You have to score in these types of games,” said head coach Marko Milanović. “You have to find a way to score. We didn't, very disappointed with that. But there's also not a lot of time to be sad. We play Montreal on Thursday and that should be our main focus.”
Shelina Zadorsky, on the result: “Credit to Sab (Sabrina D’Angelo). It’s unbelievable to stay focused, especially second half, late in games. We talked about it as a team, being able to keep clean sheets. … Very frustrating and disappointing, but it's not just on people who need to score goals, it’s on all of us. Just keeping that competitiveness and the urgency we need to get the three points, I think we can improve there. Look, there's lots of positives to take away, but yeah, certainly frustrated at the moment.”
AFC Toronto returns to the pitch this week against Montreal Roses FC at Stade Boréale. Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at 7 p.m. ET.
SABRINA D’ANGELO: Goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo made four saves to earn her fifth clean sheet in her eighth start with AFC Toronto.
ZOE HASENAUER: Zoe Hasenauer came off the bench in the 72nd minute for her first NSL appearance. The 26-year-old midfielder signed with AFC Toronto on August 29th.
JASMINE VILGRAIN: Jasmine Vilgrain was available on the bench for AFC Toronto on Sunday. The 24-year-old defender signed with the club on August 30th and was announced alongside Hasenauer this week.
LEAGUE’S BEST DEFENCE: AFC Toronto has the fewest goals against this season, with just 18 conceded in 19 games. Toronto also sits second in the league in goal differential at +12.
HEAD-TO-HEAD: AFC Toronto remains undefeated against Calgary, with a 3-1-0 record against Wild FC this season. The two sides meet one final time on October 18th at BMO Field.

Marko Milanović, on the team’s absences: “I never talk about absences really and we're never going to use that as an excuse. We had 11 players on the pitch, players came on. We have more than enough quality to win games with the squad that we have currently. So that's on us.”
Milanović, on Zoe Hasenauer’s debut: “It was definitely difficult for her considering that she landed only a few days ago. I thought she had an impact when she came on. You could tell she's a footballer first of all and I thought she had some good actions going forward, some good final balls. She's going to need some time to get used to the team and to integrate fully, but what we saw today was encouraging.”
Sabrina D’Angelo, on her growing chemistry with Toronto’s back line: ”I think it's been good. … Obviously I've played with Shelina for years with the national team, so I know her very well and it's just getting used to (Sarah) Rollins and learning what her tendencies are, what she likes, how we can help her get on the ball and help her succeed in the game. And she's a great player. Obviously having (Victoria) Pickett there on the right and Croix (Soto) who came in today, solid. So yeah, I think it's just continuing to get that game time with the players and learning and continuing to grow.”
Shelina Zadorsky, on her family in attendance at BMO Field: “That honestly has got to be some sort of world record, because never in my career have I had that many family and friends come. Definitely very special and meaningful. My whole dad's side, he's one of ten, so I'm pretty sure there were about 40 people just in that corner. So yeah, definitely very memorable. I feel really at home, at peace here, and I just want to keep producing quality performances for this club.”
