AFC Toronto wraps its regular season campaign next Monday at BMO Field against Halifax Tides FC

Toronto, ON (October 19, 2026) – AFC Toronto fell 1-0 to Calgary Wild FC at BMO Field on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Toronto is out of the race for the 2026 Supporters’ Shield and drops into third place in the Northern Super League table with 38 points and one match remaining in the regular season.

Calgary got on the board early on Sunday off the foot of Jorian Baucom. Toronto responded with a number of dangerous attacks the other way, but could not convert. The club continued to push late into the match, including hitting the woodwork twice in the final ten minutes. Ultimately, a strong performance from Calgary’s backline held Toronto off the scoresheet, handing the club its first loss in eight matches.

“It was one of those performances we’ve seen multiple times this year when we didn’t get the result,” said head coach Marko Milanović. “A lot of those were draws, some of them were losses, but it’s games where you spend most of the game inside the opposition’s half. A lot of that inside their box. But you can’t score, you can’t put those chances away that you’re creating regularly.”

More from the locker room:

Marko Milanović: “We just have to be better when it comes to our final action, our final run, final pass, final attempt on goal. That’s something we have to clean up. It’s definitely on me. Because it’s part of the game that we just need to improve on. We can’t blame luck, posts, and crossbars the entire season.”

Milanović, on the club being eliminated from the 2026 Supporters’ Shield race: “We don’t have a chance to win this trophy (the Supporters’ Shield), the first trophy of the season, but we’re in the running for the other two. We advanced in the Cup (W Canadian Championship) and we’re going to do everything we can to win the playoffs, the trophy that we still don’t have.”

Captain Nikki Small, on being shutout: “It’s pretty frustrating, just because we know how good of a team we are. Obviously on this field we’ve been unlucky, but especially today, just been unlucky again with our finishing and the quality in the final third. But obviously that’s something to look forward on, in the future to just really be clinical.”

Milanović, on conceding early: “I don’t think it had any impact on us, to be honest with you. Outside of the first ten minutes, we were in full control. I think we would have played the same way if it was 0-0. I don’t think those kinds of things impact us, we continue to play the same way.”

Zoe Hasenauer, on integrating into the roster since signing with Toronto in late August: “For me, it’s been a relatively easy adjustment. I think the team’s been super welcoming and all the girls have been super helpful. Pulling me in and helping me get accustomed to everything, especially joining so late in the year.”

Milanović, on next week’s match against Halifax: “We’re going to approach that game like any other. It’s also about getting ready for the playoffs and making sure that we’re going into that last part of the season with a win, hopefully with a good performance.”
