This October, AFC Toronto is playing for more than the game.
TORONTO, ON (September 30) – This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, AFC Toronto is joining the Canadian Cancer Society’s Soccer for Cancer campaign, bringing our players, supporters and community together to raise funds in support of breast cancer research.
Throughout October, there will be opportunities to get involved, from donating and supporting the campaign at our matches to following player stories and taking part in special activations throughout the month.
What is Soccer for Cancer?
Soccer for Cancer brings players and communities together to turn their love of the game into action in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
The program gives soccer communities across Canada an opportunity to use the game they love to make a difference for people affected by cancer. Through fundraising events and initiatives, players, teams, clubs and supporters can come together to raise funds and awareness while showing that the impact of soccer can extend far beyond the pitch.
For AFC Toronto, our fundraising through Soccer for Cancer will specifically support breast cancer research.
Why We’re Playing for More
Breast cancer is one of the three most commonly diagnosed cancers in Canada, making research an important part of improving how the disease is prevented, detected and treated.
Cancer touches people across every community. Nearly half of people in Canada are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and more than 1.5 million people are currently living with or beyond cancer.
This October, AFC Toronto is using the power of women's soccer to support breast cancer research through the Canadian Cancer Society's Soccer for Cancer program, while bringing our community together to share stories, show support and play for more.
“Most people in our community have been impacted by cancer, whether personally or through someone they care about,” said Helena Ruken, CEO and Co-Founder AFC Toronto. “We are proud to support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Soccer for Cancer campaign and help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. It’s an opportunity for our players, supporters and partners to come together and contribute to work that matters to so many people.”
