AFC Toronto can confirm that midfielder Linda has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while representing Ghana at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Linda sustained the injury on August 13 during Ghana’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 inter-confederation play-off match against Côte d’Ivoire. She will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 season and begin her rehabilitation under the care and support of the club’s medical team.

AFC Toronto has also exercised its club option to extend Linda’s contract through the 2028 season, keeping her with the Club through December 31, 2028.

“This is extremely unfortunate news for the club, but more importantly for Linda. She has been settling into her new environment incredibly well and has quickly become a popular member of the team.

“Representing Ghana at WAFCON and earning her first senior international caps was an amazing milestone for Linda and a reflection of the progress she has made at such a young age. She has tremendous potential, and we are confident this setback will not stand in the way of her realizing that potential.

“Our belief in Linda and her future remains as strong as ever, and we have exercised the Club option to extend her contract through the 2028 season. We will be with Linda every step of the way and give her all the support she needs throughout her recovery,” said Billy Wilson, Technical Director, AFC Toronto.

Everyone at AFC Toronto stands behind Linda as she begins her recovery and is committed to supporting her on her return to the pitch.
