MATCHDAY STORYLINES

BACK, BACK, BACK AGAIN
AFC Toronto returns to action tonight following a two-week international break, refreshed and riding the momentum of a successful stretch of the season. The squad enters this home matchup against Ottawa Rapid FC sitting atop the Northern Super League table after a decisive 3-1 win over Halifax Tides FC before the break. That victory marked the team’s third straight and showcased forward Kaylee Hunter, who recorded a brace and an assist to lead Toronto to first place, one point ahead of the Montreal Roses FC.

Tonight’s match at York Lions Stadium is another opportunity for AFC Toronto to continue asserting itself as a top contender in the NSL. While several players recently returned from international duty, the focus is back on league play and extending the team’s unbeaten home record. With rising confidence, a balanced attack, and strong leadership across the pitch, Toronto will aim to carry their pre-break form into the second half of the season.

KOREA NIGHT
Tonight’s home match is more than just a fixture on the schedule – it’s a celebration of culture, community, and identity as AFC Toronto proudly hosts Korea Night at York Lions Stadium. The evening features Korean-inspired stadium activations, food, and music in tribute to South Korea’s rich heritage and vibrant presence in the global game.

Korea Night also honours AFC Toronto defender Hong Hye-ji, a proud South Korean international and a key defender on the pitch. It’s a night to recognize her impact, celebrate the contributions of Korean culture to football, and bring fans together in a shared spirit of connection and pride.

SUMMER SIGNINGS
AFC Toronto continues to strengthen its roster with the addition of three exciting summer signings: forward Lauren Rowe, midfielder Sarah Stratigakis, and defender Zoe Burns. Rowe is available for selection tonight, bringing strong attacking instincts and a standout university and League1 Ontario track record. Canadian international Stratigakis returns home to Toronto following seasons in France and Sweden, offering leadership, creativity, and big- match experience to the midfield. Burns arrives with professional experience in both the NWSL and France’s top flight, alongside international pedigree with Canada’s senior national team. Stratigakis and Burns will be available for selection once the transfer window opens on July 20, with their first eligible match on July 24 in Vancouver.

MATCHDAY PREVIEW

KEYS TO THE MATCH - RESILIENCE AT THE FOREFRONT

After a well-timed international break, AFC Toronto returns home looking refreshed and focused, ready to kick off the second half of the season with purpose. While the squad enters tonight’s match against Ottawa Rapid FC atop the NSL standings, they do so with the clear understanding that this league demands consistency and mental toughness.

The last meeting between these teams was AFC’s toughest result of the season: a 4-0 home loss. But head coach Marko Milanovic emphasized that this week is not about looking backward, but about maintaining the team’s high standards and showing who they are now.

Marko Milanovic: “We feel an even greater responsibility to perform well at home in front of our fans. Our mindset, our preparation, and our performance are things we can control – and we take that very seriously.

Milanovic also pointed to the team’s identity being rooted in its depth and collective belief, noting the club has had to weather multiple player absences all season long. That resilience has been a hallmark of AFC Toronto’s rise, and it will be key again tonight. “No matter who’s available, we love our roster and have full confidence in this group,” he said. “We’re proud of the players who have stepped up and earned their moments.

Whether it’s bouncing back from early season setbacks, adapting to lineup changes, or staying composed during intense stretches of matches, this team continues to show it can rise to the moment.
