AFC Toronto’s Kaylee Hunter and Olivia Chisholm are continuing to make their mark on the international stage, helping Canada advance to the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
After opening the tournament with a 1-1 draw against England and a 3-0 loss to Brazil, Canada delivered a dominant response in its final group-stage match, defeating Tanzania 6-0 to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
Both AFC Toronto players found the scoresheet in the victory. Chisholm opened her World Cup scoring account with a spectacular long-range strike in the 49th minute, a goal FIFA described as a potential Goal of the Tournament contender. Hunter then added Canada’s fifth goal in the 76th minute with a headed finish, marking her first goal of the tournament.
The performances build on an impressive tournament for Hunter, who recorded six attempts and eight duels won in Canada’s opening match against England, while Chisholm continues to gain valuable experience at the U-20 level as one of the younger players in Canada’s squad.
Canada now turns its attention to the knockout stage, where it will face France in the Round of 16 on Thursday, September 17 at 9:00 a.m. ET at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź. The match will be broadcast live on TSN/RDS.
For Hunter and Chisholm, the journey continues.
