AFC Toronto Clinches a place in the Northern Super League Playoffs

With a decisive 3-0 win over Ottawa Rapid FC on Saturday at York Lions Stadium, AFC Toronto officially secured its place in the postseason, marking another milestone in a season that has continued to build on the success of the club’s inaugural campaign. 

In 2025, AFC Toronto finished the inaugural Northern Super League regular season at the top of the table, becoming the league’s first ever Supporters’ Shield winners. Now, in Year Two, the club has once again secured its place among the league’s top teams and remains in the race to defend that title. 

And while the playoff spot is secured, the job is far from finished.

AFC Toronto remains firmly in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, sitting just three points behind league-leading Montréal Roses FC with three regular-season home matches still to come.

That means there is plenty more to play for.

One chapter closed. Another begins.
Saturday’s victory was another step in a season that has demanded plenty from AFC Toronto. Just a few weeks ago, the team sat 16 points behind the league leaders. Since then, AFC Toronto has steadily chipped away at the gap, putting itself in position for a late-season push and bringing the Supporters’ Shield back within striking distance.

Now, with the playoffs officially within reach, the focus turns to the final three matches of the regular season.

First up is Vancouver Rise FC on October 4 at York Lions Stadium, with Vancouver currently sitting fourth in the league table.

Then comes a return to BMO Field on October 18, when AFC Toronto takes on Calgary Wild FC, before the regular-season finale against Halifax Tides FC on October 26.

Three matches. Three opportunities to keep building momentum. And three chances to make home advantage count as AFC Toronto continues its push toward the top of the table.

A special October ahead
The club’s regular-season run will also intersect with a major moment for Canadian soccer.

During the October international window, three of the six NSL players selected to the Canadian Women’s National Team are from AFC Toronto: Sabrina D’Angelo, Kaylee Hunter and Shelina Zadorsky.

The trio will join Canada for a pair of international friendlies against Denmark, first at Stade Saputo on October 9, followed by a return to BMO Field on October 12.

For AFC Toronto, it is another reflection of the talent within the club and the growing role the NSL is playing in developing and showcasing players at the highest level.

From the club level to the international stage, October promises to be a month with plenty to watch.

The road to the Final
For AFC Toronto, reaching the playoffs was an important goal. Now, the opportunity is to make the most of the final stretch of the regular season before turning its attention to the postseason. 

The playoff semifinal will take place at York Lions Stadium on the weekend of October 30 or November 6, with the exact date to be determined by the final NSL standings.

For supporters, that means there is still plenty to play for. Three regular-season matches remain. The Supporters’ Shield is within striking distance. And a playoff run is on the horizon.
